Fitness game, exergaming or exer-gaming is a term used for video games that are also a form of exercise. Exergaming relies on technology that tracks body movement or reaction. The genre has been credited with upending the stereotype of gaming as a sedentary activity, and promoting an active lifestyle. Research indicates that exergames can produce real improvements in fitness. Exergames are seen as evolving from technology changes aimed at making video games more fun. These video games are very vital for the present generation due to the deteriorating health.

Dance Dance Revolution

Dance Dance Revolution abbreviated DDR and also known as Dancing Stage is the pioneering series of the rhythm and dance genre in video games. Players stand on a dance platform or stage and hit colored arrows laid out in a cross with their feet to musical and visual cues. Players are judged by how well they time their dance to the patterns presented to them and are allowed to choose more music to play to if they receive a passing score.

Zumba Fitness

Zumba Fitness is a video game developed by Pipeworks Software and published by Majesco Entertainment based on the Zumba program. It is available for Wii, PlayStation 3 with PlayStation Move, and Xbox 360 with Kinect. The Wii and PS3 versions come with a Zumba Belt where the Wii Remote or Move controller is inserted into on the right hip. The game was released in November 2010.

Nike+ Kinect Training is a fitness video game for the Xbox 360. It is developed in cooperation with athletics company Nike. It was released on 30 October 2012. The game allows the user to earn and compete with others with NikeFuel points, a unit of measuring athletic performance. In February 2013 Nike+ Kinect Training’s Development Team was nominated for a BAFTA Games award.

Your Shape

Your Shape is an exercise video game developed by Ubisoft, released for PCs and the Wii in 2009. Utilizing a motion tracking camera released with the game, Your Shape guides the player through various aerobic exercises that can be tailored to target certain parts of the body. A sequel was released in 2010 titled Your Shape: Fitness Evolved for the Xbox 360.
